Day 1 Monday: Arrival at Broken Hill
Make your own way to Broken Hill. On arrival, you will be met by your Host and escorted to your accommodation. Hotel: Old Willyama Motor Inn or Silver Haven Motor Inn (or similar)
Take a step back in time and explore Australia's first heritage-listed city, showcasing Broken Hill's rich history. Visit the Miner’s Memorial, located at the highest point of the Line of Lode offering panoramic views of the city's architecture. Next, we’ll take a break before heading to the famous Sculpture Symposium to watch the breathtaking sunset. Meals included: light breakfast & dinner.
This leisurely tour takes you around the Menindee Lakes scheme, with scenic stops along the way at Menindee and Kinchega National Park (weather permitting). The highlight of the trip is a wetlands cruise on the River Lady, where you'll get up close and personal with the abundant wildlife that calls this area home. Meals included: light breakfast, lunch & dinner.
After breakfast, we’ll set off for Australia’s most vibrant ghost town—a must-see for movie buffs and history enthusiasts alike. You’ll have the opportunity to explore craft centers, galleries, and museums, as well as the iconic Silverton Hotel, with time to grab a bite to eat (at your own expense). In the afternoon, we’ll tour some of the local art galleries. Broken Hill is renowned for its dynamic art scene, and you’ll witness firsthand the extraordinary talent and creativity that make this place so special, then finish the day with a meal at the Tipsy camel, housed in Broken Hill’s historic Waverly Brewery. Once one of several thriving breweries in the early 1900s, it now blends rustic charm with hearty outback hospitality. Meals included: light breakfast & dinner.
We begin our day with a visit to the Royal Flying Doctor Service, where we’ll explore the vital role they play in delivering medical care to remote communities. Next, we’ll head to White’s Mineral Art and Mining Museum. You will be treated to hundreds of mining scenes depicting the way mining was done in the past and present, as well as mining memorabilia throughout the museum, which features over 400 mineral artworks, extensive mining history, and one of the region's largest doll collections We’ll wrap up the day with a tour and meal at the iconic Palace Hotel, famously featured in Priscilla, Queen of the Desert. For those feeling lucky, you can try your hand at a game of two-up—Broken Hill is the only place where you can legally play this game on a regular basis. So, join the locals and give it a spin! Meals included: light breakfast & dinner.
Today, you’ll have the freedom to explore this remarkable part of Australia at your own pace. For a glimpse into the lives of early miners, venture underground at the historic Day Dream Mine. Discover the rugged escarpments, mineral-rich springs, and ancient Aboriginal rock art at Mutawintji National Park. Or, if you prefer a more relaxed day, enjoy a round of golf, join the locals for a leisurely game of bowls, or catch the local bus to the iconic Bells Milk Bar for a delicious, nostalgic milkshake. Meals included: light breakfast.
Today, we’ll visit White Cliffs, Australia’s oldest commercial opal field and one of the few places in the world where white opal is found. White Cliffs is also home to Australia’s first solar power station. You’ll have the chance to explore the Red Earth Opal Underground Mine Tour & Showroom, where you can purchase opals directly from the source. We’ll then spend the night at the renowned White Cliffs Underground Motel, offering a truly unique and unforgettable experience. Meals included: light breakfast, lunch & dinner. Hotel: White Cliffs Underground Motel.
After breakfast we make our way back to Broken Hill for the night. Meals included: light breakfast.
After breakfast bid farewell to your fellow travellers as your holiday to Outback NSW comes to an end. You will be transferred to your departure point. Meals included: light breakfast.
